Huw M
"stunningly beautiful music" Stuart Mconie, BBC 6 Music
Huw M is Welsh composer and performer Huw Meredydd Roberts.
He plays a mix of original melodies and borrowed folk songs, mangled together with influences from across the globe, to create haunting, intelligent music.
For his album Utica, he formed a sensitive, thoughtful quartet joined by Lucy Simmonds on cello and vocals, Bethan Mai on accordion and vocals and Iolo Whelan on drums, percussion and vocals. -
Pendevig
(2018-2021)
'An electric reaction to tradition'.
A fabulous flash in the folk pan: fifteen of Wales' finest traditional musicians came together in a big, bold celebration of Welsh music and dance, song and spoken word.
Check the highlights of the band's first ever UK gig here - at the Wales Millennium Centre as part of the National Eisteddfod of Wales; who knows if this mighty beast might play again one day?! -
Jammy and the Dodgers
Jammy (aka James Harris) plays a huge variety of songs with a flexible voice and killer guitaring, and pulls in some of Cardiff's finest rhythm players to back him up.
Most of my exploits as a Dodger are:
- on a Thursday night at Brewhouse in Cardiff. A good time to catch this band as we indulge ourselves in a tasty and tasteful set of covers
- on a weekend night, also at Brewhouse, way more raucous
- leading the occasional and utterly unique experience that is Bandeoke
- nearly every Saturday at The Philharmonic, Cardiff, but I’m let loose on percussion rather than drum kit.
Come and hang out, have a drink enjoy some tunes; just don't ask us to play Oasis. ;-) -
Nancy Ackroyd Band
A home-grown trio from the Vale of Glamorgan: an organic blend of guitar, cello, teeny tiny drum kit and three voices.
Don’t be fooled by the band’s relaxed appearance - Nancy's songs deliver a real emotional punch, as well as a journey through the woods and fields of the three musicians’ home village.
Their most recent album ‘Light the Lamps’ took the trio’s sound and sophistication to a new level again, to the delight of fans old and new. -
Jamie Smith s MABON
(1999 - 2021)
"If music could fuel engines, Mabon could solve the energy crisis” - Songlines
Mabon was a five-piece band (accordion, fiddle, guitar, bass & drums) playing the original, InterCeltic music of frontman Jamie Smith, presented with virtuosic skill and plenty of good humour.
After a thousand shows in dozens of countries; releasing seven albums and building a dedicated following of enthusiasts; Mabon hung up their jigs in 2022 as several of its members moved on to different professions.
For a further fettle, the band’s website is still live: www.jamiesmithsmabon.com. -
Goose
A dynamic and highly experienced covers band under the charismatic leadership of Colum Regan, a fabulously capable singer from Cork. With thirty years of non-stop gigging experience under his belt, Colum knows the mood, the groove and the song for every moment.
Goose plays a vast range of popular music, from the classic songs of fifty years ago to current-day hits. The flexible line-up can vary on demand from a wholesome three-piece band to a riotous six-piece party machine.
Check this site's gig list for my forthcoming public engagements with Goose and come and see the band in action; or to book the band for your event, contact Colum via http://www.gooseband.co.uk/.
